“The Spirit of Labor: Tribute on Labor Day”

Why do we celebrate Labor Day?

This day stands as a heartfelt tribute to honor the tireless dedication of workers and their invaluable contributions to the growth and achievements of our great nation.

Visionaries within these groups proposed dedicating a special day to celebrate the labor force.

The Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor took the initiative, organizing the very first Labor Day parade in the vibrant streets of New York City.

In 1887, Oregon proudly became the pioneer state to declare Labor Day an official public holiday in the United States. By 1894, the significance of Labor Day had touched the nation’s hearts, leading to its official recognition as a federal holiday.

Thirty states across the U.S. had already embraced the tradition of celebrating this day with immense pride.

Interestingly, our neighbors in Canada also observe Labor Day on the first Monday of September, sharing in the spirit of recognizing workers’ dedication.

Furthermore, on May 1st, over 80 other countries commemorate International Workers’ Day, known as May Day.

“This date was selected by the Second International, representing socialist and communist parties, to honor the labor strike in the United States and the Haymarket affair in Chicago from May 1st to May 4th, 1886. It underscores Labor Day’s historical and emotional significance.”
